We now have Helmet cam videos!

Yes, its been forever since we updated our blog. But anyway, we now have a number of racers on our team using helmet cameras. These are pretty cool because you can watch the race through the perspective of the driver. Yes- watching lawn mowers race might seem like a rather pastoral experience... but not for us! Now you can get a better appreciation for what we- the loyal racers of lawn mowers- must endure around the track.

The 2008 season is here!

The 2008 racing season has now started for our group. We were one of the first groups in California to start racing mowers and have nearly doubled our membership in the past year. As a whole, we've learned a lot about how to build these mowers from the ground up with drastic improvements in terms of speed, reliability, and safety.
Included in the collection of mowers are a number of extremely potent live axle machines, one that includes Kevin's killer build with a 22HP V-twin Briggs, and what might possible be the first FX class racer in California, Seth's Grants build with a tiny 37" wheelbase.
This year promises to be an exciting, fun season. Come out and join us for a season of racing. Again, if you're interested in becoming a member, please send us an email.

Our First race Day: April 28th, 2007
The first ever race for the Potter Valley happened on April 28th. Many showed up to watch. There was a total of 6 mowers at the race, with many more expected to show up for the May 28th, Memorial Day rodeo and BBQ.
There were two races. One for kids and the 2nd for the adults. All in all- a great day with great people. Here are some photos!

Pvmowerracing.com online.

pvmoweracing went online on April 26th, 2007. The site is one of the first web sites specifically for California lawn mower racing. For lower maintenance, plug in features were used in some areas, like the photo section and this forum.
To PVLMR members: I will need a few things in oder to get the blog up and running. Send me your email addresses and you will be invited to become authors on the blog.Anyone can comment on anything whether they're a member or not.But PVmower guys should be authors on the site. Also- I am going to set up email accounts for users who want to be sent emails from the site. Because of the fact that our server doesn't allow emails to be sent through the server and into outside email accounts, the email accounts are set up through our server. So the email addresses will be something like:
seth@pvmowerracing.com, etc.
Now for the fun stuff: Welcome to the Potter Valley Lawn Mower racing forum! If you're in California and want to know more about how YOU can get involved, then you've come to the right place. We are gearing up for the first season. There will be a race this weekend, April 28th @ 12:00. Practice begins at 11:00
If you are thinking of becoming a member of our group, there are rules and regulations that must be followed in order to make the sport safe, fair, and accessible. In other words, there is more to the sport than simple showing up in Grandpa's old riding mower. A great resource to find out how you can get ideas of how to create your very own racing mower is to visit this site:
heymow.com
We are in the ARMA organization which has a different set of rules compared to USLMRA.

Welcome to California Mower racing!!

Hello all,
This blog was formed out of the necessity to encourage more people in California to get together and add more members to a fledgling sport that has taken the country by storm but surprisingly has barely started in California. We are a small group so far of around 10-15 people or so, but this number is quickly growing. Since this is a new blog, everyone is encouraged to post whatever topics they feel would be helpful. Feel free to post pics of your ride too. Even if you don't have a mower, jump in anyway! We generally like anything that has an engine stuck to it, so if topics go from lawn mowers to weedeaters- that's ok.
I'll start with myself. I got interested in lawn mower racing about 6 months ago after hearing about it on an unrelated site. I grew up working on small engines and mowing my family's enormous 14 acre yard back in Tennessee, so I already had a lot of time on a riding mower. To me the sport brings back a sense of nostalgia. Since getting into the sport, I've learned a lot and built my first mower, which to my surprise required a lot more engineering and reinforcement. You are really turning a lawn mower into a semi go-cart. So some engineering knowledge is helpful. I had to teach myself how to weld and do many things I've never done. So if I can build something... you can too! here is my mower...
